HUDSON MACK

LISA HOPELESS – Why are you wearing a Canucks jersey, Joe?

COUNCILLOR JOE THORNTON – If we approve the construction of a twenty-six story building, we might as well just admit we’re living in Vancouver now.

LISA HOPELESS – Pam, I’m sure you have a few choice words on the subject.

COUNCILLOR MADDOG – I feel The Hudson Mack has been a lost opportunity. We could have achieved so much more.

COUNCILLOR LUSCIOUS – In an ideal world. But having more people living downtown should at least provide a boost to business.

COUNCILLOR COALMAN – And let’s not forget that the developer significantly increased the number of parking spaces, which always gets bonus points in my book.

COUNCILLOR BULLSHIT – If only the building wasn’t so tall! Buenos Aires has managed to achieve increased density without resorting to extreme heights.

LISA HOPELESS – And how would you know that?

COUNCILLOR BULLSHIT – I’ve just returned from a trip to Argentina.

COUNCILLOR CURMUDGEON – Nice job, if you can get it.

LISA HOPELESS – While admittedly the Hudson Mack may be a taller building than we are accustomed to in Victoria, I’m excited about the provision for a rooftop patio.

COUNCILLOR MADDOG – Don’t let that fool you, Lisa. While the model may make the patio look like The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, let me assure you this development will not be making the list of Seven Wonders of the World, ancient or modern.

COUNCILLOR LOVEFLAKE – We’ll be lucky if there isn’t even a jumper or two given the acute housing crisis.

LISA HOPELESS – You don’t appear to be your usual sunny self today, Councillor Loveflake.

COUNCILLOR LOVEFLAKE – That’s because I’m frustrated.

LISA HOPELESS – And why’s that?

COUNCILLOR LOVEFLAKE – It just seems that despite all the projects council has approved and the city undergoing an unprecedented building boom, we’ve completely failed in our mandate to create affordable housing.

COUNCILLOR CURMUDGEON – And to think it’s only taken you four years to figure that out. Impressive.

LISA HOPELESS – Okay guys, it’s time to vote. Six in favour, three against. The motion passes.

COUNCILLOR COALMAN – It looks like Victoria has its new tallest building.

COUNCILLOR JOE THORNTON – Vancouver, here we come!
